Can you answer 'yes'

to any of the following?

Have you recently left uni, but need experience to get your foot in the door?

Are you already in work, but looking for

a new opportunity or fresh direction?

Have you been out of work for a while,

or looking to get back into the job market after a career break?

Or would you simply like to make a difference and give something back,

by volunteering in the justice sector?

If so, the course is for you!

Did you know?

To bag the career you want, you'll need 3 things...

Professional Qualification

You need the knowledge and understanding to perform your role competently and confidently.

Our Level 4 Diploma gives you just that.

Real-world Experience

Employers need to know you've the skills and experience to do the job. So your placement will provide you with real people and real cases to handle.

Networking and

Key Contacts

They say success comes down to who you know, not what you know! And there's no better way to get yourself known, than to work alongside people already in the job.

We cleverly combine all 3

to maximise your success.

What will I learn?

The course is accredited by Skills for Justice, the Sector Skills Council for the Justice Sector. It is designed to give you the core skills, knowledge and competencies that will enable you to excel in justice sector jobs.

The course centres around Restorative Practice –

a concept at the heart of modern justice careers. You’ll learn evidence-based approaches that are proven to resolve issues and promote lasting change and rehabilitation. On completion of your training, you'll be a fully qualified Mediator and Restorative Justice Facilitator, and can apply for jobs in this line of work, or pursue other areas of criminal justice that interest you.

You'll learn Essential Skills for the Justice Sector, including...

Effective Communication

Assertiveness

Victim Awareness

Mediation & Restorative Justice

Coaching, CBT & Solution-focused Approaches

Listening, Reflecting and Summarising

De-escalating Hostility and Aggression

Working with Warmth, Care & Compassion

Conflict Resolution

Inclusive and

Non-judgemental Practice

Handling People with Empathy & Sensitivity

And much more...

AWESOME EXPERIENCE

YOUR PLACEMENT

When you join the course, you'll get the crucial first-hand experience you've been waiting for - as you work with victims, offenders and members of the wider public through a volunteer placement with the Durham Police & Crime Commissioner's Restorative Hub.

With the support of experienced mentors, you'll handle cases directly from the police, prisons, probation, courts and community; including neighbour disputes, community mediation and restorative justice casework. You'll liaise with justice sector colleagues, manage your own cases, and gain enormous pride and satisfaction from rehabilitating offenders, assisting victims, and resolving complex situations with challenging individuals. It's an opportunity to truly make a difference in people's lives - which is exactly what criminal justice is about after all.

Destinations

What doors can the course open for you?

The course has an excellent reputation among employers locally. We are known for producing capable, high-calibre graduates who can immediately be trusted with key positions.

After graduating from the course, you'll be skilled and competent in the essential skills and personal qualities required for justice sector work. You'll have worked and gained experience in the sector, and become familiar with colleagues in the field. So much so that several of our students have received job offers while still training.

And unlike universities, we don't flood the market with hundreds of qualified students competing for the same few posts. Rather, we train in small groups, and invest heavily in your success - which is why 90% of our students achieve their career goals.

Within the last two years, our students have gone on to gain full-time employment in the police and prison service, the NHS, restorative justice services, and mental health and drug-addiction services to name a few. One student even secured a highly-paid position in Australia.
